This was an excellent book! I don't know where to begin. It was so well done and Shania Twain did an incredible job. She's very detailed and it feels as if she covers most everything throughout the trajectory of her life from birth to early 40's, even though that's impossible, but it is jam packed and layered with tons of insight and detail running about 400 pages or so. The first 1/3 of the book are the struggles in her life pre-fame. The abusive violent household she was raised in and being dirt poor to the point where they wouldn't know if they would have a meal that day. The second 1/3 of the book is the rise of her career and how that just kept getting bigger and bigger. The final 1/3 is the taking a break from the career and witnessing the crumbling of her marriage and the discovery of a new love.

I'm not doing this book justice with this, but all I can say is that I loved it. It was entertaining and moving. I was a little intimidated by how big and detailed it was, so I decided to take it one step at a time and just savor it slowly. I would pick it up and read a few pages to a chapter or two. I'd put it down and pick it up on another day and read a few more pages or chapter. Over the course of four months I was reading this book. Dragging it on like that made me feel the longevity of her life to date and all the experiences, hardships, challenges and blessings that were being bestowed to her.

It was a nice glimpse into a beautiful rags to riches story and what it's truly like from the perspective of someone who is well-known. You don't get that impression though. She's down to earth, fun and incredibly hard working. You feel like she's just like anybody else, but this great stuff in her career is happening and people are recognizing her, but she's still the same person she was before the fame. She really breaks all of that down and then you feel for her and what she was going through with the dissolve of her marriage due to infidelity on the husband's part. I think aside from the career bit, many would be able to relate to her troubled childhood and the heartbreak in love. The career fame stuff is interesting to read what it's like from the perspective of the famous person and how she's just like anybody else, but not because people know her, but she doesn't know them. I loved all of that stuff too and what it's like to make an album, get a contract, and do all the promo stuff, the touring, and the grueling hard work that ultimately drained her as it would anybody. This was a fascinating and interesting read. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would read it again at another date in the future.

I don't read a lot of books these days, unfortunately. But, this one, I did. Amazing, touching story. Very detailed and smooth writing. It is fun to read and an inspiration for the rest of the people, common souls who all have their ups and downs. Shania is a beautiful woman with so much strength and positive energy that even the weakest should find many good reasons to look for the bright sides of things, even the bad things. Good job, Shania!
I can’t say I’m particularly a fan of Shania Twain, but I’ve heard her music playing on the radio over the years, and I especially enjoy one of her songs, Ka-ching. The only reason I picked up her memoir is because I always enjoy a good rags to riches story, and this one did not disappoint.

In fact, Shania Twain’s autobiography gave me a deeper insight into what it’s like for children who are neglected by parents who selfishly had more children than they could afford. It just cemented my opinion that most of the world’s poverty can be attributed to people irresponsibly having more children than they can care for. Sad to see is how she justifies the neglect by her mother and the domestic abuse by her father. I guess no matter what, most of us refuse to see our parents through anything other than rose tinted glasses.

After finishing From This Moment On, I feel that Shania Twain deserves all the good things that come her way. Having grown up the way she did, making all the sacrifices she did, and working her behind off for her dream and achieving all that she has, she is more than deserving of the good life she is living. I’m not saying this as a fan (because I’m still not), but as someone who made the journey through Shania’s life story by way of her memoir, and as a wife and a mother who has also suffered betrayal and divorce.

Although much of this autobiography is Eilleen reflecting on her life and writing this book as a way to heal, beyond her sad childhood and painful divorce, there isn’t much else in here that haven’t been publicized in the media over the years. True Shania Twain fans won’t find much new in here, but others, like me, would come to know both Eilleen and Shania Twain.
The second I read the blurb for this book I recognized a kindred spirit in Shania, or a kindred childhood, I should say. Coming from an abusive background myself, as she recounted her story I understood all too well her terror, confusion, and love for her parents, as well as her motivation to alter her family's circumstances. Her eventual success and determination to move forward have sculpted Shania into more than a globally celebrated singer, and I enjoyed reading her account of her life thus far.
couldn't put the book down!! i read about 150 pages in just 1 day! for someone who's always been such a private person, she basically 'tells all' in this book. not hiding anything, i don't want to give too much away....but lots of personal things about her parents that would surprise just about all of her longtime and loyal fans. talks about what it was like meeting mutt, the incredible musical success she experienced and then finding mutt was leaving her for another woman.

but i have to say, shania criticizes the 'other woman' for seducing mutt, but it takes two to tango, in my opinion and mutt was a big boy who knew exactly what he was doing. there were some things shania chose not to discuss her biological father's entrance into her life after she became a success (and unsuccessfully tried to sue for something like $10mil) and also her brother's mishaps with the canadian police (some kind of drug bust).

but overall, a FANTASTIC book, i've bought this book twice and gave the other one away as a gift. if you want to know shania's life story told by shania herself ), have a day off and just be prepared to read the whole book without putting it down. it's THAT good! and hands down, one of the best autobiographies i've ever read! highly recommend to anyone!!
