Ford Callaghan has finally made it big, but he has no one to share it with. His brother Jax hasn't spoken to him normally since their oldest brother died in a car accident just before he was to make his NHL debut. Ford was just 16 and driving the car that night, and Jax was injured badly enough that it cost him his chance at a future in the NHL too. Despite the circumstances surrounding the accident, Jax has all but cut him off and Ford's only normal contact with his brother's family is through his sister in law so that he can spend time with his nephews. So Ford has returned to Chicago with Cup, but he has arrived a few days early and is hiding out in a hotel trying to mentally prepare himself for the coming days with his family and the media frenzy. He is slumped on the balcony enjoying a beer when he overhears a group of women having a titillating conversation over the adjoining wall, and he can't help but listen in. One sexy voice belonging to a woman named Addison stands out to him both for the story she is telling and her voice itself, and one smokin' hot encounter follows! She leaves before he can track her down to exchange names but he has a small clue to follow that he hopes will allow him to find her.

Addy just moved to Chicago to open her own lingerie business after escaping her controlling ex-husband - a man who just so happens to be Ford's boss! Oh boy! Of course once Ford tracks her down, there is a lot of "oh we shouldn't but damn it feels so good" as well as a lot of self-doubt on Addy's part. She may be a model but she still wonders what a man like Ford sees in a woman several years older than him with a whole lotta curves - not to mention that if her ex finds out that Ford is interested in her, he will ruin the man's career just for fun to get revenge on her.

In Skates Trouble sets the stage for the author's new Chicago Rebels series, and I cannot wait for the first full length book to be available! Addy's best friend Harper is the team owner, and based on the initial indications in this story, Harper is going to have her hands full running the team with her 2 sisters who seem to be at odds with her.

This novella is a part of the Hot on Ice anthology that came out back in February, and in my oh-so-humble opinion, In Skates Trouble is worth the purchase of that novella on its own.

If you haven’t read Kate Meader yet, you really need to get on it. Even in a book this short, the characters and their motivations were well-developed and clearly drawn, and nicely set the stage for the beginning of a new series that I cannot wait to check out.

I loved all of this. Every aspect of Ford and Addison’s story was so well done, and Addison is a heroine I want to hang out with. I want to grab a bottle (or 2) of wine and head over to her house and plan to either stay the night or Uber home because I’m not staying sober. She’s a plus-sized model who recognizes that she can’t model forever and is building a business to capitalize on her current popularity. She’s older than Ford, and it’s a non-issue. It comes up, Addison gives it some thought, it’s not ignored, but it’s not “A THING”. It just is the way it is.

And Ford – lordy. He was so sweet, so sexy, and completely set on making Addison see that he wanted her. And he did it without crossing the line into creepy or stalkery. There’s one aspect of Addy’s life that could have caused a lot of issues for Ford’s life, and he didn’t care. Maybe to a fault. He didn’t handle that as well as he could have, but he’s young. It’s understandable.

This book was a lot of fun. Kate Meader is so good at making me feel all the emotions while I’m reading her books. Ford had me laughing from the very beginning with his eavesdropping and dirty talk. And when these two got together, it was all explosive sexy times. The next book in the series, Irresistible You is up for pre-order, and trust me. When you finish this one, you’re going to want to go one-click that one right away.
Kate Meader is an author that is fairly new to me, but I'm a sucker for hockey romance novels, and In Skates Trouble did not disappoint! This is a novella, a prequel to The Chicago Rebel Series. Although it is not a full length novel, it definitely covered a lot! It can be read as a standalone, however, I highly recommend reading this before beginning the series.

One thing I loved about this story is the way the two main characters meet....on adjoining balconies of a Chicago hotel...sight unseen, but yet both felt drawn to one another as the opening scene plays out. I have read hundreds and hundreds of books through the years, and can honestly say that the opening to this story is one that I have never read in another book...that in itself is a testament to Kate Meader and her writing ability. Addison is a character I immediately loved, as well as Ford Callaghan. Addison is not the typical size zero puck bunny, and that is what instantly drew me to this character. She is a full-figure model, and personally, I found it amazing that the author featured a character that is more realistic to the everyday woman...one that is not ashamed of her curves! That's not to say they didn't have obstacles to overcome, especially since there is a major twist to the storyline, but how they handle it was quite admirable. The author also uses vivid detail to describe the most intimate aspects of their relationship...and the sizzling hot chemistry between Addison and Ford is undeniable! In addition to their story, we also learn about the troubled past involving Ford and his brothers. The family dynamic between Ford and his brother Jackson is a troubled one, but also one I feel the author handled perfectly.

Overall, this was a great prequel to the series! It reads at a fast pace, and held my complete attention from beginning to end. I honestly couldn't read it fast enough. I forgot to mention Harper Chase...a character that is also a vital part of the story. She is Addison's best friend, and the basics are laid out to prepare for the Chicago Rebel Series. She is an intriguing character with an interesting family story that is briefly touched upon, making me look forward to reading the series to find out even more.

I am completely hooked after reading this story, and am looking forward to seeing how this series plays out! I hope you give this novella a chance, as well as the other books in the series!
