Love this screenplay/book! Since I enjoy Sense & Sensibility the movie and have re-watched it many times, while reading the screenplay I could certainly see the scenes playing out. Emma Thompson richly deserved her Academy award for Best Adapted Screenplay on this one! I enjoyed the "diary" portion/half especially. Reading Ms. Thompson's daily musings, perspectives and anecdotes was very engaging, entertaining and a great behind-the-scenes look at how a movie is actually filmed vs the end product. There are no revolutionary "ah-ah's" but just a clear view of little, personal things that make the filming process interesting. I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone who loves the Sense & Sensibility story and an insider's perspective of making a film.

Emma Thompson has hit on a goldmine! I wish now I could buy a copy of the screenplays of ALL my favorite movies with diaries full of behind-the-scenes secrets! Fantastic job, Emma! The diary is hysterical and now I enjoy watching the movie again with a new perspective--an insider's perspective. But Emma didn't say how the scene came about where Fanny flips out with Lucy's news of her engagement to Edward. That was a riot and not in the script--who thought it up?!!

A beautiful book of colour and black & white photographs from the film, this book contains Emma Thompson's Oscar winning screenplay as well as her diaries from her time making Sense and Sensibility. A must have for any Sense & Sensibility (film) fan or of course, any Emma Thompson fan. It's no wonder she won the Oscar, her skills of the use of the English language are impeccable. Highly recommended.

There are several versions of this same book. To my knowledge, this particular one is the only one which contains colour photographs.
The screenplay and diaries written by the multi-talented Thompson are an eye-opening look into her talents as a screenwriter and an actress. It's a beautifully illustrated book and one that any young person who wants to be a film actor should read.

Sense and Sensibility is one of my favorite movies and this book does not disappoint in providing the back story. Emma Thompson, who won an Academy Award for writing the screenplay, kept a diary before and during the filming. The diary is interesting and provides plenty of information on how the days progressed during filming and the interaction the actors had with each other. What it doesn't provide is any juicy tidbits or gossip - which is fine with me. In addition, the book contains the entire script although it is not the final, shooting script - but very close to it. There are photos interspersed throughout the book and I would have liked to have seen more photos - not from the movie, but photos of how they shot the movie which is why I didn't give this 5 stars. It's a quick read and after finishing it, I viewed the movie again knowing some of the back story.
I don't know how I missed this book when it was first published, but I'm so glad to have it now. I read it over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is one of my favorite movies and Emma Thompson can do no wrong. I wish she would write more books. I know she's busy but she's so good.
